Global Volunteer Month: A Time To Take Action

April is Global Volunteer Month, a time to celebrate the people who selflessly serve others, and a time to find ways to positively impact the world.

THE NEED FOR VOLUNTEERS:

Volunteers are needed now more than ever. Many nonprofit organizations are still reeling from the effects of the pandemic.

An article published on The Chronicle of Philanthropy shined a light on COVID-19’s negative impact on nonprofit volunteer programs.

“The drop-in hours donated each year by volunteers was especially sharp during the past two decades, plunging from 52 in 2002 to 40 in 2017, and 26 in the pre-pandemic year of 2019. Data from the latest survey put the number of hours Americans devote annually to volunteering at just 25,” according to a recent report by AmeriCorps and the U.S. Census Bureau.

Post pandemic, nonprofits are seeing a rise in client needs, but struggling to revive once thriving volunteer programs.

With more volunteers, nonprofits have the power to serve more people, provide more resources, and make communities better as a whole.

THE GOOD NEWS AND CALL TO ACTION:

If you want to make a difference in your community, volunteering is the perfect way to take part in the positive change you want to see.

At VolunteerNow, we pride ourselves on knowing that volunteers have the ability to change everything.  From changing the life of a senior, a student, a family, or an animal- your time and talents can provide equitable and lifesaving resources to someone in need.

VolunteerNow serves all cause areas, helping everyday people transform lives through volunteerism. We refer over 700 volunteers a day to nonprofit organizations. This April you can become one of those community building volunteers!

Studies show there are several health benefits to volunteering, including reducing stress. When you give back, it keeps you active by engaging in purposeful work with people who share your passion.

When volunteers match up with nonprofits to do good work, the entire community benefits. Find your place to serve this April and beyond at VOLY.org
